- Pandemic/Bio-Terrorist Attack Mode of Operations:
-
The H1N1 Pandemic has emphasized the need for an enhanced biological kill capability to confront the unknowns surrounding the transmissions of that disease. As a precaution, some medical waste haulers notified their hospital customers that should a full-fledged pandemic occur that their waste removal services might be curtailed. Landfills have been vocal in their intent to refuse potentially contaminated waste during a pandemic or bio-terrorist attack. The solution is onsite treatment with a proven efficacy and enhanced biological kill during such events.
One of the capabilities of the VariClave is OnSite Sterilization’s ability to program into its control circuitry a special “Pandemic/ Bio-terrorist mode of operations. The VariClave is the only autoclave that has a patented airborne pathogen kill phase. The new feature requires the Supervisor to use a key to switch from the normal to Pandemic/ BTA mode of operations. The shift doubles the airborne pathogen retention time and increases the target biological kill from a ten to the sixth to a ten to the twelfth reduction.
- Dry Heat Sterilization:
-
Particularly in the aftermath of a Bio-terrorist attack there may be items outside the normal RMW waste stream that need sterilized. Such items as documents are destroyed by wet steam sterilization. All VariClaves have pressure vessel fittings to allow the insertion of plate steam radiators to allow the pressure vessel to be used for dry heat sterilization. OnSite’s patented material handling system has a special “flat bin” that is used in conjunction with the dry heat system. This system allows the sterilization of such items as documents, mattresses, desks, and any other item in a patient’s room that requires sterilization to be reused or as a step in the disposal process.
The kit is available as an option and price quotes can be acquired from your sales representative.
