The Control System is housed in a NEMA 4 upright enclosure of powder-coated
mild steel. Its dimensions are 32 inches wide x 27 inches deep x 74 inches tall. |

The user interface is a 17 inch Allen Bradley VersaView full color LCD touch
panel display. Operational control is managed by an Allen Bradley,
CompactLogix Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). |

The control software for both the
user interface and the PLC has been
developed especially for The Variclave® and can support multiple languages. |

A searchable database is provided to maintain processing, maintenance, training
and incident records. |

A black and white, letter size, cut sheet, laser printer is housed in the cabinet for automated and on demand
printing of cycle reports, processing logs and other reports stored in the database. For convenience, the printer
has an 800 sheet feed paper capacity. |

A network interface is provided for
remote monitoring of The Variclave® as well as remote report viewing and
printing. |

A radiation monitor and detection
system is available to monitor each
bin of waste for radioactive
material before it enters The Variclave®.
The system consists of a Ludlum
Model 375 Digital Monitor and
matched Model 44-151 Scintillation
Detector. The output from this
system triggers an alarm in The Variclave® Control
System, requiring operator acknowledgement to help ensure compliance with the facilities Radiation
Monitoring Protocol. |
